Prof. Okuno is a faculty member of Kyoto University and a visiting researcher of HRI-JP. He received the prestigious Commendation for Science and Technology in the category of research by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on Apr. 8, 2013. This award is recognition to researchers who have achieved remarkable results in the fields of research and development in science and technology. His achievement on "robot audition based on machine listening technologies" is the topic of collaboration between HRI-JP and Kyoto University for these years. Prof. Okuno joined the robot audition project in HRI-JP as a visiting researcher in Apr., 2004. The collaboration between HRI-JP and Kyoto University started in 2006. In 2010, we released robot audition software called HARK 1.0 (HRI-JP Audition for Robots with Kyoto University) as open source software for research purpose. The work in robot audition which makes a robot understands the surrounding environment is recognized as a world-leading technology in academia. And it is also extended to three simultaneous speech recognition by Honda ASIMO. We will continue to research on robot audition with the objective of making it more valuable and practical.
